How To Replace A/C Fan Motor & Wiper Blades, Plus Install New Mirrors

How To Replace A/C Fan Motor & Wiper Blades, Plus Install New Mirrors

Welcome! Today, we are delighted to guide you through the process of replacing the fan motor in your excavator's air conditioning unit, as well as installing new wiper blades and mirrors

We understand that these tasks may seem daunting, but fear not! We will walk you through each step with precision and provide valuable tips along the way. By following our detailed instructions, you will be able to tackle these tasks confidently and efficiently on your own excavator in no time!

For this demonstration, we will be working on a Komatsu PC200LC Excavator.

Step 1: How To Replace the AC Fan Motor

To begin, you will need to remove the light gray and dark gray covers that encase the AC unit. However, before doing so, it is crucial to remove the two storage cubbies located on the sides of the unit. Loosen the bolts securing the cubbies, and they should come off effortlessly.

Once the cubbies are removed, proceed to loosen the bolts on the two gray covers mentioned earlier. Gently remove these covers to expose the fan motor

Before proceeding further, take a moment to inspect the area for any accumulated dust. Dust can adversely affect the functionality of the motor and other vital components. If necessary, carefully clean the area to ensure optimal performance.

Now, it's time to test the new fan before removing the old motor. Connect the cable to the new motor and turn on the ignition. Test the fan at different speeds to ensure it functions properly. If the fan operates smoothly, you can proceed to remove the old motor.

To access the old motor, you will need to remove three screws located on the sides. Utilize a ratchet to unscrew them. In most cases, this should be a quick task, unless the screws were previously over-tightened. Please note that there may be some screws that are not immediately visible.

Before replacing the old motor with the new one, take note of the precise location of the three holding screws. Additionally, inspect the seal around the circumference of the new motor to ensure it is intact and free from any damage.

Now, carefully install the new blower motor in the exact position where the old one was situated. Secure it in place by reattaching the three screws. It is essential to avoid tightening any screw or bolt until they are all in place. Sometimes, you may need to slightly adjust the component or realign a bolt. By waiting to tighten them, you can avoid the hassle of removing and starting over.

Step 2: Testing the Cabin Fan

Once the blower motor is connected, take a moment to test it one final time. Ensure that you test the fan at all available speeds and listen attentively to confirm that it is running smoothly and without any unusual sounds.

Finally, reassemble all the components, including the panels, once you are satisfied with the performance of the newly installed fan motor.

Step 3: Cabin Cleanup

Before proceeding to the next task, it's essential to give your cabin a thorough cleaning to maintain a pristine environment.

We highly recommend using the Spray Nine cleaner, a powerful solution that effectively eliminates grease, grime, dust, dirt, and fingerprints, leaving your cabin spotless. Alternatively, Simple Green is another excellent option for achieving a clean and fresh cabin.

While cleaning, you can also address other cabin maintenance tasks, such as replacing the cabin light or changing the cabin air filter if necessary. This ensures that your cabin remains in optimal condition.

Step 4: Wiper Blade Replacement

To replace the wiper blades, start by removing the two small screws located on the arm. Since accessing these screws can be a bit challenging, it's best to remove the entire arm and work on a bench for convenience.

Using a number two Phillips tip screwdriver (if available), carefully unscrew the bolts that secure the wiper blade in place. If the screws are tight, exercise caution to avoid applying excessive force, as this may strip the screw heads.

Remember to keep the screws in a safe place to prevent misplacement. You will need them again later.

Now, attach the new wiper blade onto the arm by securely screwing it in place.

Once the wiper blades have been successfully replaced, reattach the arm to the excavator in the same location where you initially removed it. Ensure proper alignment and functionality by testing the wiper blades before completing the task.

Step 5: Rear View Mirror & Side View Mirror Installation

Our PC200LC Komatsu excavator features two distinct styles of mirror mounts: the jaw-type bracket and the bolt and pivot type. To determine the mount type, examine the back of the mirror closely.

For mirror installation, you will require both the rectangular and circular mirrors, as they serve different purposes and provide comprehensive visibility.

Installing the Rear View Mirror

Ensure a clear view of your surroundings with the installation of the rear view mirror. Follow these step-by-step instructions to properly install both the rectangular mirror and the round, convex mirror.

Rectangular Mirror Installation:
  1. Begin by adjusting the holder to a suitable position. Lower it to your arm's level for easier installation.
  2. Take caution not to allow the mirror to stick out excessively. It should be positioned at a distance and angle that enables you to see what's behind you while seated in the cabin. Keep in mind that excavators are known for their quick movements and rotations, making visibility crucial.
  3. When tightening the screws, exercise care to avoid overtightening. You should still be able to manually reposition the mirror when necessary.
  4. Once you are satisfied with the viewing angle, raise the holder back up to its original position.
  5. To ensure the optimal viewing angle, you can either have someone sit in the operator seat or place a clearly visible object behind the excavator. Verify if the object is visible in the mirror from the cabin.
Round Convex Mirror Installation:
  1. Locate the bracket provided for mounting the round, convex mirror.
  2. Position the side-view mirror correctly, allowing the operator to have a clear view of the machine's side and its surroundings.
  3. Similarly, test the viewing angle by having someone sit in the cabin or placing an object next to the excavator. Confirm if the object is visible in the mirror.
  4. Before finalizing the installation, make sure to clean the mirror thoroughly, removing any smudges or fingerprints.

By following these instructions diligently, you will successfully install the rear view mirror, enhancing your visibility and promoting safety during excavator operations.
